Scarlet 1 Session aftercare guide for face, neck, or a single body area in Silver Spring

The most important rule after your Scarlet SRF session is simple: keep the treated area calm. That means clean hands, gentle cleansing, no heat, no sweating, and no sun while your skin is doing its repair work. In Silver Spring, that matters even more because humid summers can make you flush and sweat faster, and cold winters can dry you out when you least expect it.

A Scarlet 1 Session combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy to improve the look of texture and firmness in one focused area, either face and neck or one body area. It’s a great step up when you want more than a facial, with downtime that’s usually manageable if you follow the basics below.

Your first 24 to 48 hours: gentle only, and keep heat off the skin

Redness and mild swelling are normal for 24 to 72 hours. The goal in the first two days is to protect the tiny micro-channels in the skin so they can close and heal without extra irritation.

Quick checklist for days 0 to 2: Cleanse gently, keep the area hydrated, skip makeup, and avoid anything that makes you hot or sweaty.

Do this

  • Wash with a gentle cleanser and cool to lukewarm water. Pat dry. No scrubbing, no cleansing brushes, no textured washcloths.
  • Keep the area moisturized with a simple barrier-supporting hydrator. If I recommended a healing serum or ointment for you, stick to that.
  • Sleep on a clean pillowcase the first couple nights, and keep hair products, perfume, and heavy fragranced lotions off the treated area.
  • Drink water. Hydration helps your skin recover, and it’s something my team and I talk about often in the treatment room.

Avoid this

  • Makeup on the treated area for at least 48 hours. Even “clean” makeup can clog, irritate, or introduce bacteria when skin is still open and reactive.
  • Sweating and heat for at least 48 to 72 hours. That includes hard workouts, hot yoga, saunas, steam rooms, and hot showers that make you flush.
  • Direct sun. If you have to be outside, cover up and stay in shade. I usually have you wait to apply SPF until redness is settling, then I want you wearing it daily.
  • Touching the area with unwashed hands. It’s tempting. Don’t do it.

If you live in White Oak or Colesville, quick check-ins are easy since I’m right here in the Silver Spring area. If something doesn’t look right, I’d rather you ask than guess.

Days 3 to 7: protect the skin, don’t pick, and hold off on active products

By day 3, many people look less red, but the skin is still healing underneath. This is where I see the biggest difference between “I got the treatment” and “I protected the result.”

If you get flaking or tiny crusts

Leave it alone. No picking, peeling, or rubbing “just a little.” Pulling off flakes early is one of the fastest ways to trigger irritation, prolonged redness, pigment issues, or even scarring. Keep moisturizing and let the skin shed on its own schedule.

Skip these for about 7 days

  • Retinoids and retinol
  • Strong vitamin C, acids (glycolic, lactic, salicylic), and exfoliating toners
  • Scrubs, microderm, at-home peels, and anything abrasive

If you commute in Silver Spring, fall weather can fool you. It feels cooler, but your skin can still dry out from wind and indoor heat. This is when extra hydration helps, plus a lightweight SPF once your redness has calmed down.

The simple routine that keeps Scarlet SRF results on track

I keep aftercare simple on purpose. Right after Scarlet microneedling with RF, your skin responds best to a routine that supports the barrier and avoids “extra.” If you’ve been working on acne, discoloration, or texture for a while, this week is not the time to test new actives.

My go-to “calm skin” lineup (by product type)

  • Cleanser: gentle, non-exfoliating, fragrance-light or fragrance-free
  • Hydrator: simple moisturizer that doesn’t sting when applied
  • Barrier support: soothing serum or ointment if your skin feels tight or raw
  • SPF: once redness is settling, daily sunscreen is non-negotiable for protecting tone

A lot of my long-term skincare clients get their best glow by staying consistent. I hear it again and again: routine plus patience is what moves the needle, not product hopping every few days.

When to reach out to me in Silver Spring, and what’s not normal

"Sha is incredibly communicative, kind, and genuinely cares about her customers. She goes above and beyond to make sure you feel supported and taken care of throughout your journey."

One of our long-time clients

Here’s the honest line I use in my treatment room: mild redness, warmth, and some swelling are normal. Feeling a bit “tight” or dry as the skin settles is common too. But sharp worsening pain or anything that looks infected is not something to wait out.

Please reach out right away if you notice: increasing pain, fever, pus, spreading redness, or unexpected prolonged bleeding. If you’re in White Oak, Colesville, or coming off I-495, it’s usually easy to stop by for a quick look and peace of mind.

And if you’re happy with how you’re healing, tell me that too. I’ll note what worked for you so your next Scarlet 1 Session, or any follow-up skin plan, stays consistent and predictable.

Scarlet 1 Session aftercare FAQs I get all the time

How long does redness and swelling last after a Scarlet 1 Session (Face/Neck or Single Body Area)?

Most people have redness and mild swelling for about 24 to 72 hours. Some skin types calm down faster, and some stay pink a bit longer. If you’re still getting worse after day 3 instead of better, reach out so I can take a look.

Can I wear makeup after a Scarlet 1 Session (Face/Neck or Single Body Area)?

I want you to wait at least 48 hours before applying makeup on the treated area. Your skin needs time to close and settle, and makeup can add irritation or bacteria too soon. If you have an event, talk to me before your appointment so we can plan your timing.

When is it safe to exercise or go to the gym after Scarlet SRF?

I generally recommend avoiding workouts that make you sweat hard for 48 to 72 hours. Heat and sweat can keep you red longer and irritate the area. If you do light movement, keep it cool and easy, and stop if you feel flushing.

When can I use retinol, vitamin C, or other active skincare after Scarlet SRF?

Plan to pause retinoids, strong vitamin C, acids, and exfoliants for about 7 days. If your skin is still sensitive at day 7, give it a little more time. When you restart, go slow and let me know if anything stings so we can adjust your routine.

Can I swim, use a sauna, or take hot baths after my Scarlet 1 Session?

Hold off for at least 48 to 72 hours. Pools, hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, and hot baths combine heat and bacteria exposure, and that’s not what freshly treated skin needs. Give your skin those first few days to settle, then ease back in.
